Objective
Upon completion of this lesson, the student will be able to identify, interpret, and comply with airport runway, heliport, helipad, and taxiway signs, markings, and lighting systems in accordance with 14 CFR Part 91 and applicable AIM procedures. The student will demonstrate the ability to safely navigate the airport movement area while maintaining situational awareness and avoiding conflicts with other aircraft, vehicles, and personnel, meeting the performance standards outlined in FAA-S-ACS-15 PH.III.A.

Airport Movement Area (14 CFR 91.129)
The movement area consists of runways, taxiways, and other areas of an airport used for taxiing, takeoff, and landing of aircraft. For helicopter operations, this also includes designated helipads and heliports. Understanding the movement area is crucial because 14 CFR 91.129 requires two-way radio communication with the control tower when operating in Class D airspace.

Situational Awareness Threats Radio communications, passenger conversations, and complex taxi instructions can create distractions. Prioritize aircraft control and navigation first. If you become disoriented, stop the aircraft and request assistance. Use the sterile cockpit concept during ground operations.
Runway Incursion Prevention Runway incursions are among the most serious safety threats. Always:
- Monitor ground control and tower frequencies continuously
- Read back all runway crossing clearances
