Objective
Upon completion of this lesson, the CFI candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach taxi operations with wheel-type landing gear to appropriate ACS standards. The candidate will explain and demonstrate proper taxi procedures, risk management techniques, and error recognition while maintaining teaching effectiveness. This lesson addresses ACS task HI.VIII.D and prepares the CFI candidate to instruct students in safe ground operations at controlled and uncontrolled airports.

Taxi Instructions and Clearances (K2)

- Position nosewheel appropriately (locked/unlocked based on aircraft type and conditions) when applicable to specific helicopter models

- Coordinate flight controls (cyclic, collective, anti-torque pedals, and brakes) to maintain appropriate taxi speed and directional control
- Maintain powerplant parameters within normal operating limits during all taxi phases
- Maintain track within 2 feet of centerline or assigned taxi route
- Position accurately relative to hold lines and specified points, demonstrating precision ground handling
- Communicate effectively with ATC, providing complete readbacks and acknowledging all clearances appropriately
