Risk Management
Risk management in helicopter operations involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout the flight. The risk management process includes:

Crew Resource Management (CRM)

Communication Skills: Clear, concise, and timely communication using standard phraseology and callouts. Effective communication is like building a bridge - both ends must be properly connected for safe passage.
Situational Awareness: Maintaining accurate perception of aircraft state, environment, and system status. This involves the “big picture” understanding of:
- Aircraft position and energy state
- Weather conditions and trends
- Traffic and obstacle awareness
- System status and performance
Teamwork: Coordinating efforts between crew members, establishing clear roles and responsibilities, and supporting each other’s performance.
Task Allocation: Distributing workload appropriately between crew members, considering experience levels, current workload, and operational requirements.
Decision-Making: Using crew input to make informed decisions, especially during abnormal or emergency situations.
Single-Pilot Resource Management (SRM)
SRM applies CRM concepts to single-pilot operations, focusing on managing all available resources both inside and outside the aircraft:
